SINGAPORE: The Lion City!
SINGAPORE - the asia's Lion city as the world known as asia's modern Metropolis. The towering heights of its skies scrappers edifices will amaze you on how it was built in a very dense and majestic manner. The rich and full diversity of foods, cultures, and races since time -in memorial makes it the melting pot of intercultural exchange from around the world in Asia.
In spite of the size of Singapore, a city state, it has proven itself for resiliency among its people by empowering themselves to rise up again after it faltered for some time. It's the peoples fighting spirit that makes the soul of Singapore to be progressive enough to ranked as the sixth richest country in the world.
With Singapore's lack of resources, how does one become rich? Singapore is the world's busiest port in maritime perspective since the Dutch discovery until the British colonization no matter how the country being an export oriented one.
Likewise, Singapore has a stable political climate and implements their laws and regulations strictly with no exceptions. This makes the singaporeans well disciplined and trained on how to have a shared destiny towards progress.
The Environment
Singapore has a tropical climate common to other southeast asian countries. Despite being modernized and industrialized the country is, you will never experience smog in the air you breathe. The streets are so clean and all the flowers bloom and plants thriving like in a botanical garden. Smoking is banned all throughout the city state except for some designated smoking areas. The garbage are well collected and segregated for recycling.
The Transportation
Singapore should I say has the most efficient transportation around the world. All areas in the CBD, the government's housing to tourist attractions are well interconnected through their MRT or railway stations. Traffic is not a problem across the city state because they have developed a well routed destinations through continuous building of streets and highways. In fact, Singapore is continuously building stations which brings all the communities draw closer to wherever they wanted to be. Fares in MRT and buses are cheaper than taxis but I find taxis here in Singapore cheaper compare to the taxis I've tried across european countries and North American countries. For asians, still its cheaper compare to Japan and South Korea but quite expensive for Southeast Asians like Philippines, Indonesia, Malaysia and etc.
The quality of transportation is sophisticated with their state of the art technologies. Their MRT stations is an evidence alone, all stations has a widescreen TV monitoring for departures and arrivals of train on time; the station railways has gates that open only when the train is boarding or unloading passengers. Onboard the train, you will see a screen and a map informing you what stations you are and what is there to see in that place. So even if you don't know yet the places here in Singapore, you will easily find which and where to go.
Their MRT is using EZ-link card like the Mighty card in Australia which cost SGD 5.00 then additional top up for the fares. You can buy the card at the train stations itself . Initially you can have your first top up upon buying it but for the second top up, you will have to use the machines that scans the card and accepts cash bills (Bills accepted are 5, 10, 50). The good thing about their card is that you can block it and retrieve the stored value once it is lost.
The Food
Since Singapore has a multi-diversified culture, you could easily find any kinds of cuisines across the city. You can enjoy cheaper food preparations at any place they called "hawker" where price ranges from SGD 1.00 up to SGD 10.00. Dining in resto is expensive which I find it painful for the pockets of any budget travellers. There are only three foods that I find it distinctive and better here in Singapore, they are the Chilli Crab, Laksa, and Chicken Rice. The cost of foods here are cheaper than E.U. countries but it's almost the same in Canada and in the U.S.A. For asians, its cheaper here than South Korea and Japan but expensive for other Southeast Asians.
The Accomodations
Singapore can offer a lot of hostels and hotels as your accommodation depending on your budget and concept of habitat. Hostels for backpackers ranges from SGD 10.00 - SGD 20.00/ night (Inclusive of all amenities. Free wi-fi, air conditioned, etc). The hotels here from budget to high end ranges from SGD 60.00 up to SGD 500.00/ night (Inclusive of all amenities)
The Language
Communication is not a problem in Singapore as they have two official languages. English and Mandarin Chinese are the two predominant languages in the city state. Some minorities also speaks Tamil, Indie, and Malay.
