BORACAY'S CLOSURE: Is it over for the beach Bummers?
Boracay has long been the top tourist destination in the Philippines. It is located in Northwestern Part of Panay Island in the Town of Malay province of Aklan. Its beauty, the white powdery sands which the coolness soothes to your skin ( Unlike any white sands in the beaches of the Philippines) is a huge income generating tourist spot not just in Aklan but in the country as a whole. For the fiscal year of 2017 alone, the Island generates around PHP 56 Billions.
Huge amount of revenues right? But what does it mean for all of us? Literally, it means that the more influx of tourists coming around from all over the world the more revenues it generates.
Come to to think of it! The more tourists exploring the Island the more it is exploited and the more we harm the environment. As a tourist, as a local, as a businessman, have we come to our senses to discern about its growth and sustainability by exploration without damaging the beautiful island that could lead to irreversible effect?
Or are we just enjoying anything while it lasts and never ponder for what's next to the coming generations?
President Rodrigo Duterte's pronouncement of the Island closure is in fact logical. It would mean faster rehabilitation and recuperation of the Island without further disturbance from the populace. But Sen. Cynthia Villar argued, that it would have a great impact in the economy and the livelihood of the people. Yes it's true, if that is, have we forgotten the word of late Sen. Mirriam Defensor Santiago that what is lacking in the country is that People of the Philippines doesn't have a "SHARED DESTINY"?
How can we punish those who erred when the one who is doing the right is tolerating the wrongdoings of others?
But hey Bummers! Cheer up! Let's not be sad about the issue, remember this
"For every problem there is, there's always a great opportunity that opens for another exploration" which is why I am here to give you an alternative destination.
BORACAY'S ALTERNATIVE: Hinugtan Beach or Bel-is Island in Buruanga, Aklan?
|
Hinugtan Beach |
The Hinugtan beach and Bel-is beach are in Burunga, Aklan in Northwestern part of Panay Island also which is fronting Boracay in the main land of Aklan. The beaches, the sands are comparable to Boracay less the party, less the crowd, less aquatic adventures. To give you a clearer perspective, Hinugtan Beach and Bel-is Beach have a very romantic seascape and panoramic view.
The two Beaches can offer a different level of adventures like mountain trekking, photography, solitude and calmness. It will totally disconnect you from the fast changing world and slows down your time to think more of the things that matters to you (Disconnection is literal in a sense that there is no phone signals) like soul searching and reflections in life.
|
Hinugtan Beach |
Nevertheless, you will enjoy the virginity of the natures of the beaches and relieve you from all day stress in the city life.
Getting there is easy, they are accessible by boats, motor vehicles or cars. The easiest way for you to go there is by boat as the long and winding road isn't easy to drive for novice motorists.
HOW TO GO THERE..
From Caticlan, Malay, Aklan which is the jump off point to boracay is also the main hub of transportation for travellers like me. From there, you can ride a tricycle or jeep going to Japan Port which will be your jump off point.
|
Hinugtan Beach |
In Japan Port, you can rent a boat going to Hinugtan or Bel-Is ( you have to talk to the boatman for your iteneraries as there is no phone signals) where you can also enjoy beach hoping to nearby destinations like Nasog Beach, Ariel's Point and more.
Best time to enjoy Hinugtan and Bel-is beach in Buruanga, Aklan is during summer. It is not advisable to be there during Southwest Monsoon (Habagat Season).

Hinugtan Beach |
Hinugtan and Bel- Is is truly the untouched version of Boracay Island.
Enjoy it! Explore it! Just don't spoil it.
Let us be a responsible tourist anywhere we go.
